FAQs

Does this work involve riding or require any previous knowledge of IMG_6857horses?

No mounted riding activities are a part of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy or Interactive Learning.  All of the work we do with horses is done on the ground in relation to the horse.  No prior knowledge or horsemanship training is necessary.

How do I know if this model is right for me?

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is an effective brief therapy model on it’s own or can be used in partnership with conventional talk therapy.  It is especially beneficial for those who sense a need to move beyond the cognitive approach of talk therapy and explore the a more holistic approach to healing that engages the mind, body and soul in the process of healing.

What is the difference between EAP and EIL?

At Healing Reins we offer two types of programs: Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Equine Interactive Learning (EIL) both utilizing the EAGALA model.

EAP – Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is geared towards individuals, couples, and families who are working through emotional and behavioral issues and are seeking deeper growth and healing in their lives.

EIL – Equine Interactive Learning is focused on the development of life skills, team building and group dynamics.

What can I expect from a session?

Expect to meet yourself in new ways.  Our sessions are facilitated by a team consisting of a licensed mental health professional, an equine specialist and the presence of the horse/s.  This team works together to create learning experiences geared toward your personal goals and needs.  Equine Therapy is a model that is live and in the moment – bringing both physical and emotional outcomes.  It is engaging work,  full of “ah-ha” moments that can help promote personal growth and insight.

What should I wear?
